Published date : 05 March, 2024

Angela Constance MSP was met with representatives from the West Lothian African Women's Network; CEO Eunice Simpson, Steering Committee member Chipo Makiyi, and Volunteer Ifeyinma Hart. The network is dedicated to uplifting, empowering, and advocating for African and ethnic minority women and families in West Lothian, providing support and advice for mental health, women’s health, financial advice, training, entrepreneurship, leadership, and employment opportunities. Through collaboration with other organisations the group aim to provide leadership programs, community connections, and support unpaid carers. The network addresses barriers to entrepreneurship and employment, advocating for equal opportunities and initiatives like apprenticeships and business start-ups to promote inclusivity and diversity in West Lothian.

Angela Constance MSP commented:

"During my meeting with the West Lothian African Women’s Network, I was inspired by their dedication to overcoming barriers to entrepreneurship and employment. I commend the network for advocating for initiatives such as modern apprenticeships, graduate programs, and business start-ups to promote inclusivity and diversity in West Lothian. The commitment of the West Lothian African Women’s Network to providing extensive support to individuals and families in the community is truly commendable."
