CONSTANCE WELCOMES ‘OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE’ EXPERIENCE OF SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS IN WEST LOTHIAN

West Lothian, Scotland - MSP Angela Constance has praised the work of Social Security Scotland, as new data from the Client Survey shows the overwhelmingly positive experiences of benefit recipients overall. The survey found that in West Lothian:

• 89% said their overall experience was very good/good
• 91% said their experience applying for benefits was very good/good
• 93% said their experience receiving benefits was very good/good

The survey also revealed that 97% of benefit recipients across Scotland received their payments on time, 90% said their experience with staff was ‘very good’ or ‘good’ and 93% feel they were treated with kindness. MSP Angela Constance stated that these new figures demonstrate the real difference that devolving social security powers can make to people's day-to-day lives in West Lothian. The Scottish Government has built a welfare system that prioritizes dignity, fairness, and respect to help and support the most vulnerable, in contrast with the DWP.

Angela Constance MSP added, "I am pleased that benefit recipients in West Lothian have an overwhelmingly positive experience with Scotland’s devolved social security system – people should always feel encouraged and respected in getting support." This data from Social Security Scotland's Client Survey highlights the success of the Scottish Government's efforts to create a welfare system that is kinder and more effective for those in need.”
