MSP VISITS FOULSHIELS COMMUNITY WALK IN STONEYBURN

The woodland Trust were joined by Rowanbank an Environmental Arts & Education social enterprise at the weekend to promote Foulshiels Woods with fascinating characters including musicians, stilt walkers, and aerial performers.  On the 1^st July the Woodland Trust Scotland and Stirling University are encouraging everyone to attend their BioBlitz.  A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.   You can get involved and help find and record a variety of species within Foulshiels wood. There are several events on throughout the day from recording birds, mini-beasts, mammals, wildflowers, and spiders.

Angela Constance MSP who attended the community walk organised by the Woodland Trust and by Rowanbank at Foulshiels Wood in Stoneyburn and said:

“The community walk was a great day out and the performers created a magical woodland experience for the children in attendance.  The improvements to the paths have enabled better access and Foulshiels is a great example of how a site that is part of our industrial heritage can become part of our environmental future.  Many local organisations have been working hard to improve local amenities including the Stoneyburn Vision group.   A special thanks to the children on the walk who were such a joy with their imaginative participation.  It was a great day out and well attended, with wonderful performances for young and old in an enjoyable local environment. I would encourage anyone with an interest in woodlands to come and join in the BioBlitz with the woodland trust.”
