ANGELA CONSTANCE MSP VISITS LINBURN CENTRE

Almond Valley MSP Angela Constance recently met with staff and veterans at the Linburn Centre in Wilkieston, following an invitation by Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans.  The Linburn Centre is an activity hub for ex-servicemen and women with sight loss that significantly affects their independence, and Angela heard first hand of the challenges faced by veterans and staff supporting them during the lengthy period of lockdown.

Following the visit Ms Constance said

“I was honoured to be invited back to the Linburn Centre to see how they have been coping with lockdown restrictions, and hearing about the exciting new plans to support veterans, their extended families, carers and friends.  The charity do fantastic work with many activities on offer to enable veterans and their families to have some fun and learn new skills.  The Archery in particular was fun (photo attached).”

With a variety of activities and outings and set in beautiful grounds, the Linburn Centre offers means and support to adapt to life with sight loss and try new things. Many veterans who attend the centre admit that these experiences visiting the centre and the connections made have transformed their lives.

Clair Bryan, Director of Services for Sight Scotland Veterans added –

“We were delighted to welcome Angela to the Linburn Centre once more, and to show her how we are safely resuming activities for the Veterans who use the Centre. While we still have a number of measures and restrictions in place as a result of Covid, we are pleased Veterans with sight loss can once again be provided with support at the Centre. We are grateful to Angela for taking the time to hear about how the pandemic has affected blind and partially sighted people, and for her continued interest in the work of our charity”.
