On Wednesday 3rd May, West Lothian Leisure proposed potential closures for four facilities in West Lothian two in Almond Valley: Livingston Xcite, known locally as Bubbles and Howden Park Centre.
Angela Constance MSP said, “Many constituents have contacted my office to express their disbelief and disappointment and I share their concerns.”
Howden Park Centre is at the heart of our community and to even contemplate the closure of Livingstons only theatre as it starts to get back on its feet after Covid is deeply troubling.
There is a great attachment to Bubbles in the Livingston community and the health benefits of the facilities for young and old are well known. Travel is not always an option for constituents especially with reduced buses meaning access to the nearest swimming pool will become more difficult.
“I would urge concerned constituents to contact their local councillors as a matter of urgency as West Lothian Council will have to consider whether or not they consent to this proposal. Meantime I will be seeking urgent reassurances on behalf of affected staff “
