In response to the local elections results which seen the SNP continue its position as the largest political group on West Lothian Council, and for the first time gender balance in the council chamber Angela Constance MSP said
´ I want to congratulate all councillors across the political divide on their successful election to public office. I am obviously very pleased that the SNP continues to be the largest group and with the election of 10 women out of 15 SNP councillors I am very proud that the SNP have played our part in smashing the glass ceiling in West Lothian Council. Overall, West Lothian Council now has gender balance in its elected members with 17 female councillors out of 33. This is a first for West Lothian and a big moment for our local authority. I very much hope it heralds a new start for all of our local politicians to work together in the interest of all the people we seek to serve’.
