ALMOND VALLEY MSP SEEKS SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY BOWLING CLUBS
Published date : 27 October, 2020
Angela Constance MSP has this week written to the Scottish Government seeking support for local bowling clubs. The Almond Valley MSP is seeking clarification on the Business Closure Fund as the local authority has advised that as bowling clubs are classed as sports clubs therefore are not eligible.
The Business Closure Fund was introduced by the First Minister on 7 October for businesses affected by the Coronavirus Brake Restrictions put in place to control the spread of the virus. Eligible businesses can receive up to £3,000 per premises depending on circumstances.
The local MSP has asked for an explanation as to why community bowling clubs are not eligible given that other hospitality and leisure businesses such as indoor bowling and bingo halls are benefitting from this fund.
Ms Constance said -
“The introduction of the Business Closure Fund was welcome news indeed, however I am concerned that Bowling Clubs will fall through the cracks. Local bowling clubs are part of our West Lothian heritage and they are a source of support and recreation for people of all ages but senior citizens in particular. The pandemic is challenging for everyone but I want to see local bowling clubs receive as much support as possible to safeguard their future given their important contribution to our community.”
